Grand, elegant and historic, Wakehurst is an exceptional setting for weddings.
Offering over 400 acres of wild botanic gardens which are managed by the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, the estate is a truly stunning setting for magical weddings. Couples can exchange vows in the Elizabethan mansion house itself or outside on the carefully manicured Mansion Lawn. It is also possible to hold standing receptions in the contemporary Millennium Seed Bank or in a bespoke marquee on the vast croquet lawn with the Wakehurst gardens as a backdrop.
A home away from home, you will have exclusive hire of the Mansion at Wakehurst for the day. Wedding receptions held in the Mansion take place in either the Gallery or Dining Room. Both rooms are immaculate; bathed in sunshine, they overlook the manicured lawns and gardens and boast ornate high ceilings, grand oversized doors with the Dining Room featuring a stunning fireplace. The Mansion is full of character, warmth, and happiness. Perfect for pre or post ceremony drinks the Mansion Lawn is a fabulous location surrounded by the water-filled flora and fauna of the Mansion pond.
By contrast, the atrium-style Millennium Seed Bank is a striking glasshouse that offers a remarkable and modern setting for an ultra-distinctive wedding in what is essentially the home of a dramatic underground vault housing the world’s largest seed collection and a unique conservation project. Couples can sip champagne beside the parterres and party the night away against a backdrop of tropical succulent plants and cool, dark contemporary granite and glass.
During the summer months, a marquee on the well-groomed Croquet Lawn is a popular option for a romantic wedding breakfast and reception. Offering stunning views across the lawn and the breath-taking botanical gardens beyond, the Croquet Lawn offers romance and promises of special memories forever. A religious church ceremony followed by a reception at Wakehurst is also possible; All Saints in Lindfield in the diocese of Chichester is close by and is a delightful Anglican church with a strong evangelical tradition and established links with Wakehurst.
Couples are spoilt for choice when it comes to wedding photography at Wakehurst. The world class botanic gardens provide a stunning backdrop whatever the season and offer a wealth of special places for pictures including the natural woodland, next to one of the lakes or ponds, the colourful walled gardens, or further afield at one of the unique oversized wicker flower garden sculptures.
What could be more appealing than a classic English country garden wedding in one of the world’s most renowned outdoor spaces; Wakehurst is a truly world class garden perfect for a classic or contemporary wedding celebration that oozes elegance and sophistication.
